How does ice flow?

Technically: Internal deformation (breaking and reforming bonds) and sliding at the base of the glacier are the two main forms of flow.  Lots of factors determine how fast a glacier will flow, especially the shape of the glacier and the steepness of the slope it rests on.  It’s difficult to imagine glaciers moving (because they are slow) so timelapse filming of glaciers help us speed up time and watch the flow.  THIS IS AMAZING: New timelapse photography of Fox Glacier in New Zealand, Enjoy!
