The power of rain is amazing.  Rain is a key part of erosion, whether from the impact of a drop from the sky, or from the accumulation of many drops into a stream, river, or lake.  Near my house, I saw the sand next to the road appear in these columns, the larger gravel grains on top (like little hats) protected the sand underneath it from eroding away by the rain droplets.  There are much larger versions of this in elsewhere in the world.  Check out this blog:
