What if elementary school resources were shared between schools? What if there were mobile science ‘libraries’ just as there are libraries on wheels? Ideally, every school in the United States (or elsewhere) would have equal access to the materials students need to learn science, but sadly the differences in school budgets and resources keep many students in the dark when it comes to science. If a young student does not gain confidence in the sciences at an early age they are likely to avoid it in their future. I have brilliant college students telling me “I’m not good at science”, which is tragic, and this avoidance could lead to continued confusion about issues such as climate change. Perhaps an emphasis on teaching the natural sciences would decrease the financial need for equipment while still allowing students to become curious and fascinated by the way our world works.
