Hut Living

One of the best things about field work is waking up and seeing moraines, right at your front doorstep!  Or front tentstep!  There were a few places in New Zealand where we could stay in mountaineering huts at night after we collected rock samples during the day.  This accommodation was particularly welcoming after a day of cold rain because there was ample room to hang wet gear.  This photograph is from the 9 bunk Cameron Hut in the Arrowsmith Range.  If you are up for a challenge, open GoogleMaps and type Mount Arrowsmith (New Zealand), the hut is east of Mt. Arrowsmith tucked in the ice-proximal side of the prominent moraines, and at a boundary between green and grey/pink (extra point if you can tell which white dot is the dunny).  Good luck!
