I rarely travel for pleasure or vacation, it has usually been for work. While spending the summers in Twizel, New Zealand, I thought about all the people travelling through the area, on their 1 or 2 week trip around the South Island. Many would not, could not stop, nor take the 2 hour return drive up to Mt. Cook Village. Most days were sunny and dry at this southern end of the lake, and the mountains were often covered in clouds and the wind churned the lake. Out of 7 months, I only once saw the lake this calm and the mountains this clear, it was breathtaking.
