Ice patterns

This photograph is of my windshield looking out from the driver’s seat.  I think the patterns seen in nature are amazing; the veins of dogwood leaves, the back of a leopard frog, the drainage pattern of streams in a watershed, the bark of black ash, the delicate figure of a snowflake, I’m mesmerized by all of it.  Perhaps most interesting to me are the patterns in ice, you can imagine the growth of the frost pattern outward from a scratch in the car paint (acting as the nucleus).  I read the other day that a particular strain of bacteria produces the best snowflakes from snow guns at ski mountains, that sounds crazy! But I believe it.
