Survival in the Cold

titmouse

I never really noticed how many bird species stayed around here during the winter until this year.  It’s only January 9th and Maine has been hit by some severe winter storms.  It’s amazing how animals find ways to stay warm, find food and water, and survive during these harsh winter conditions.

Winter birds at feeder list (so far):

  1. Black-Capped Chickadee
  2. Tufted Titmouse
  3. American Goldfinch
  4. Purple Finch
  5. White-Breasted Nuthatch
  6. Red-Breasted Nuthatch
  7. American Tree Sparrow
  8. Blue Jay
  9. Mourning Dove

  1. I put out a suet feeder and all I’ve had has been a Chickadee. Of course, it’s the first bird feeder I’ve had. Just don’t know where the birds went to, haven’t seen any for a month at the feeder.
