Keeping it in Context

As a geologist, one of the most important steps in obtaining a good sample is assuring the appropriate context.  If you are sampling boulders on a moraine, for example, MAKE SURE THE BOULDER IS ON TOP OF A MORAINE, and not some other geomorphic feature (landform) and that the boulder could not have rolled there from cliffs up above.  Samples taken out of context will decrease the reliability and consistency of your dataset, interpretation, and conclusions.
