Tarns in the Hills

The tarn has a beautiful green-blue tint, partly due to algae, and perhaps partly due to meltwater from the rock glaciers at the headwalls of the valley.  While zooming around in Google Earth, look for tarns in the European Alps, the Rockies, or many other mountain ranges and you’ll see the upper valleys dotted with tarns.  Maybe you’ll even see moraines damming these tarns, like the one pictured above.
