Conservation vs Preservation

I was told that John Muir once spent an entire day lying on a glacial-smoothed bedrock surface, sliding slowly over it pretending he was a glacier.

  1. I think that is an amazing way to appreciate nature
  2. I wonder if he stopped for lunch
  3. I bet he would be furious to see the exploitation of natural resources on public lands (or international waters) that occurs today and is planned for the near future.

There no longer seems to be debate between conservation and preservation, instead there is a quiet murmur about how to drill for oil in the Arctic without too many people noticing.  Tell your political representatives how you feel.
